Miramichi News: The James M Hill Memorial High School's gymnasium is in dire need of upgrades: unsafe bleachers, disfunctional score clock and all its components, main hoops that will not lower once raised and will not accommodate younger players, damage to the floor, safety mats that do not stay in place and no viable sound system for hosting events. The JMH Tommies have a long and proud tradition of athletics and community involvement. We are asking for your involvement and support like never before as we enter the Aviva Insurance Community Fund Contest
The school's athletic facilities have hosted events ranging from the Terry Fox Walk to the Annual Relay for Life to the Olympic Torch Relay in 2010. The gymnasium is used not only by our own students and teams, but by programs designed to engage everyone from pre-schoolers to seniors.
Economically, the region has taken a downturn as a result of numerous closures in our traditional industries. As a result of this, combined with budget cuts and declining enrolment due to a large out-migration of Miramichiers, the traditional means of funding for facility improvements are no longer there.
We believe that our students and our community deserve the best facilities we can provide. With YOUR support, we can maintain that Tommie pride and spirit, continue to engage in our community partnerships and ensure that future generations of Miramichi youth have the "very best". On a side note, MO))) knows there are hundreds of Tommie Alumni out there that will lead in our efforts where ever they may be!
