Miramichi News: Pumkin Fling Organizers Donate Proceeds To District 16 Breakfast Program

Miramichi News:  For the past 20 years the "APEGNB Pumpkin Fling", presented by Engineers and Geoscientists New Brunswick (APEGNB)in partnership with NBCC Miramichi, Sunny Corner Enterprises and the Historic Water Street Business District, is used as a fun way to encourage kids to pursue careers in science and engineering.

The proceeds from the annual event are donated to the District 16 Breakfast Program, and have been every year since its inception. The Breakfast Program has been feeding students that otherwise would not be have access to a healthy  breakfast.  It is estimated that more than $30,000 has been raised by the community for the program in the past 20 years.

"It is a very worthwhile program. We are proud and honoured to be associated with it,” says Wade Hallihan, Manager of Historic Water Street.

Kevin Gallant, P.Eng., APEGNB member and community champion says, "From the outset, as organizers of the Pumpkin Fling, APEGNB’s Northwestern Branch wanted all money raised to be donated to a worthy local charitable organization. We are very happy to contribute to the success of the Breakfast Program.”

The APEGNB Pumpkin Fling events included pumpkin painting, pumpkin carving, gourd decoration face painting, a pumpkin roller coaster, Rotary Chili cook-off, Captain Dan's $5 boat rides, pony rides, vendors, pumpkin croquet and of course the main attraction: the pumpkin blast.

The APEGNB Pumpkin Fling is proud to be associated with community-minded businesses such as the City of Miramichi Recreation Department, Anne Bracken Formal, Lockerbie Farms, Captain Dan Boat tours, Rodd Inns and Suites, All Decked-Out, Tozer's Insurance, Canadian Dollar Store, BMO, Station Wharf Marina, and Country Charm Bakery.  Also, to the many staff and student volunteers from the Applied Arts department at NBCC Miramichi for their generous support.
