The New Brunswick Intermediate Men's Fast Pitch Softball Provincial Championship Tournament will be held in Campbelton, NB on the July 20-22 weekend. The Miramichi Jungle Jim's Brewers (5-6) and the Nelson Well Pub Red Sox (9-3) will be traveling to compete in the tournament. Both will be looking to capture the Provincial Crown and secure their spot as NB-1 at the Eastern Canadian Championships being held in Nelson on September 7-9.
The two teams are perennial contenders in the provincial tourney with the Well Pub looking to reclaim the title they won in 2010. The Brewers, many of whom were members of that 2010 Championship team, were right in the thick of things in their first year as they were edged in the 2011 semi-final by their Nelson rivals.
It is just one example of how close the two teams have played each other the last two seasons. Having split most of their meetings with the Brewers since their inaugural season, things haven't changed of late. The two rival clubs met Sunday at 4PM at the Gerald King Field in their third regular season meeting of the year with the Well Pub taking a 2-1 season series lead (3-2 including tournament play) with a 9-6 victory.
Softball fans are welcome to come check out the action this week and next as they play their final regular season games in preparation for the provincial weekend;
The Red Sox hit the King field again tonight, Tuesday, for a doubleheader. In the first match-up they take on the Richibucto Jays at 7:00PM while in game two of the double dip they face-off in their final match-up with the Brewers before provincials at 8:45.
The Brewers have a quick turn around and take on the Miramichi Midget Vics on Wednesday night at 7:00PM.
Next week, Nelson visits Eel Ground on Monday at 7:00PM and host the Vics Wednesday at 7:00PM at the King.
The Brewers have a matinée match-up with the Vics on Sunday at 2:00PM and then see action again Tuesday as they host the Jays at 7:00PM
