JF Neveu, better know as "Frankie" made his second appearance of the season and picked up his first win (1-0) with an 8-3 victory over the Moncton Fisher Cats at Ironmen field Tuesday night.
Neveu went 5 innings giving up 6 hits, one walk while striking out 5 batters with two earned runs. Shane Courtney pitched the last two innings with 2 hits, one of them earned and three walks.
Kris Keating led the Ironmen at the plate with three hits in 4 AB, he had a single, double and triple while driving in two runs and scoring twice.
Jeff Watkin who leads the league with a .397 batting average had a double and single while Jason Jarvis had two singles.
Rookie Charles Malson batting 9th in the order had two hits as well both single with a stolen base and a run scored. Malson showed some great heads-up running taking two bases on a passed ball at first.
With the win, the Ironmen opened a two-game lead over the Fisher Cats with a 14-8 win-loss record compared to the Moncton squad at 13-11. Saint John is 4 1/2 back while Fredericton sits in the basement at 5 1/2 behind in the four-team league.
The Ironmen are in action on the weekend as they host the Fisher Cats again on Saturday night, at 7 pm as part of the Ironmen Honour Roll.
On Sunday they travel to Moncton for a 7 pm contest with the Fisher Cats.
