Charles Barry Matheson

Charles Barry Matheson, husband of Georgie Catherine Cassidy, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on September 12, 2020 at the age of 87.
Barry, eldest son of Charles Richard Hadda Matheson and Frances Leona Flora Barry, was born in the Gum Road, Bartibogue Bridge on October 3, 1932.
Besides his wife, Barry is survived by: five sons: Garth (Karen), Brent (Beth), Andrew (Sue), Troy (Jean) and Todd (Lona) and daughter: Tracy (Hazen); 16 grandchildren: Kyle, Briana, Teri-Lyn, Jessica, Sarah, Billi-Jo, Nigel, Iloann, Melissa, Allison, Tara, Quade, Katelyn, Crystal, Phoebe and Dallas; 18 great-grandchildren: Isiah,Caleb, Killian, Anastasija, Kaleb, Lily, Elijah, Huck, Georgie, Karson, Aleandra, Layla, Carter, Angus, Sally, Stephen, Breelyn, London, Farren and Xzavier; brothers: Roy (Bunnie), Fred, Ronnie (Edna) and Paul; sisters: Vivian, Marion, Elizabeth, Frances, Nonnie (Romeo), Marguerite, Paula (Bob) and Ann (Bernard); sisters-in-law: Patsy Cassidy and Barb (Ronnie) Manderson.
Barry is predeceased by: infant son: Charles Dean, parents, sister: Frances Jean, brothers: Beverly John and Charles; in-laws: Shortie and Katie Cassidy and brother-in-law: David Cassidy.
Barry lived in Bartibogue Bridge until age three when his parents moved to Newcastle. He was employed with Forrest Construction most of his life and later years worked at Wandlyn Motel. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and father-in-law. He played many a game of 45s and loved to win.
Barry and Georgie enjoyed skating and dancing. They glided along the dance floor. Family meant a lot to Barry and he never missed an opportunity to get together. He was a member of both the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was also an honour guard member for the 4th Degree. He was a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 where he and Georgie spent many a good evening with family and friends.
Barry was always willing to lend a hand and was there when you needed him the most.
The family will receive visitors at Bellâ€™s Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Maryâ€™s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 2 PM with Father John Fraser officiating. Burial will follow in St. Samuelâ€™s Roman Catholic Cemetery.
