8 people receive recognition from City for volunteerism

Every year on January 1st the City of Miramichi holds a levee to pay tribute to volunteers who have been nominated for the recognition. This year 8 people were recognized. The event was delayed until January 5th because of weather.

Every year the City of Mirmaichi honours volunteers at a New Year's Levee. Tthis year it was held at the Seamans Hospital on January 5th because a snow storm cancelled the event on New Year's day. Below are photos of the recipients, and a short audio of their presentations explaining their volunteerism in the community.

Betty Doyle: Has contributed over 15,000 volunteer hours and has helped raise over $100,000 for health and hospital projects. Listen to complete presentation ( 1 min, 29 sec)
Alcide Allain: Active with youth groups at St. Mary`s, and has served as a board member at the Miramichi Food mBank for 25 years. Listen to complete presentation (1 min, 41 sec)
Eva MacDonald O`Neill: Chuch volunteer and founding member of Boat People, Library Board, and founding member of Emergency Shelter for Women, and has been a volunteer with Folksong Festival for more than 30 years. Listen to complete presentation (1 min, 49 sec)
Janet Curry: 86 years old and still dedicated to volunteering. Dedicates 15 hours a week at Food Bank and at other times and is an integral part of the operation. Meals on Wheels volunteer, volunteers in her parish, and has volunteered years ago with the Newcastle Figure Skating Club. Listen to complete presentation (2 min, 10 sec)
Alberta Foregrave: active at the Library and has played Mrs. Claus for many years, and facilitates a Roots of Empathy program school. Volunteers witht he Mirmaichi Literary Council and has been a food mentor in the Cooking to Learn Program.Listen to complete presentation (2 min, 3 sec)
