Press Release

The Miramichi SPCA is struggling like never before. Our shelter receives no government funding and so far we've been able to get by on the private donations of our amazing community and the never-ending fundraising efforts of our staff and board members.

However, in this new economy, with costs constantly rising and in a world where so many are struggling to make ends meet, households have far less expendable income. While we appreciate every single dollar that people are able to spare to support us, our expenses surpass our revenue now and we are drowning.

The cost for our shelter to provide safe housing, nutrition, routine and emergency veterinary care, payroll for our highly trained staff with a priceless amount of compassion and knowledge, on top of regular bills like electricity, telephone, insurance, etc. averages $25,000 a month.

We know how much Miramichi relies on us, we see it every day in the heartbroken faces of owners needing a safe place to surrender their beloved pets when they are no longer able to care for them. We see it in the grateful eyes of an injured kitten that is finally able to get vet care. Thankfully, we also see it when an adopter meets their new pet for the first time. We've been a staple in this community for over two decades and want nothing more than to be here for decades to come.

Since opening we've had the pleasure of helping 5000 cats find loving homes and we desperately don't want to see the next 5000 end up on the streets because we're not here to help.

Our current operating account sits under S8.000 and without a maipr influx of money our shelter will close at the end of September 2024.

We are asking anyone with connections to businesses, corporations, or organizations that might be in a position to help us, to reach out to them. We are asking our supporters to help us spread the word that your local shelter is desperate for your help. We're asking for any big ideas you have that can help save us and the animals in our care.

We need your support to continue to offer our services for this community.

Please help us.

Thank you, Miramichi SPCA - Board of Directors
