Margaret “Peggy” Macleod (Mudge)

It is with heavy hearts our family shares the passing of Margaret “Peggy” Macleod (Mudge). She passed comfortably surrounded by family on Saturday, Sept 4th. She was 79 years old. She leaves behind 3 sons; George (Susan), Archie and Norman and her only daughter, Maggie (Ken Farnell). She was blessed with many grandchildren who adored her. Morgan, Jordan, Gabriel, Justin, Jaimee, Brogan and Sydney will miss her greatly. Even our dog Tucker will miss the head rubs and pieces of chicken she would sneak him.

Born in Cape Breton, Peggy was the single child of George and Annie Mudge. She worked in the service industry from Cape Breton to Nunavut. She spent most of those years at the Famous “Jaspers” restaurant in Sydney NS. Peggy did the best she could raising 4 children on a meagre wage. We never had the best of anything but always had enough. Some of our most memorable Christmases growing up were yard sale finds that filled the living room floor. After she could no longer work she moved into our home and cared for Morgan and Jordan after school. Many families struggle with incorporating elderly parents in the home and it was not perfect nor was it without the odd challenge but she was safe, happy and content and we were glad to have her. She spent the last 20 years of her life us.

We used to laugh and tease Peggy a bit because she would burst into tears at every hallmark card she opened and every goodbye from a family visit so it really struck me how fearless and content she was on her last day. She got the chance to say goodbye to most of the family and said she was not scared and felt happy.

She was a seven year survivor of kidney transplant which was an amazing gift. We ask in remembrance of her you make sure you are an organ donor. In lieu of flowers a donation to the kidney foundation would be appreciated.

There will be celebration of life held in our home on Thursday, Sept 9th from 3 to 9 pm. The address is 21 Brook St. Miramichi.
