Religious Sisters at the Mount: 142 Years of Tradition coming to an end

Since 1869 there has been the presence of religious women in Miramichi who call themselves the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph. We have come to know them as the Sisters of Mount St. Joseph, and they have played a huge role in the care for the sick and elderly in Miramichi. Sr. Isabelle MacLaughlin is 76 years old, and will be the last of these dedicated women to grace the halls of Mount St. Joseph's nursing home, and her impact can be seen and felt in the faces of the staff and residents.

Sister Isabelle is from Bartibogue, and was taught by the sisters as a child. They inspired her in her youth, and she was called to a career like theirs. Like them, she was a teacher for years, and for the last part of her career she has been delivering pastoral services to the residents of the Mount. She says she believes people grow their entire lives, until they take their last breathes. She says she has also been inspired by how graceful the elderly handle the challenges of becoming dependant on others for everything.

As Sr. Isabelle prepares to retire, Mount St. Joseph's wanted to create a video to let people know of the contributions of the sisters. This is her story.
