JMH JV Girls to Host Provincials - Miramichi, Feb 10, 2012
The Final 8 junior girls AAA basketball teams will be descending upon James M. Hill Memorial High School this weekend as they host the provincial tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, 2012.
This single-elimination tournament will boast some of the best JV girls basketball in the province. JV Girls basketball teams are comprised of students from grades 10 and 11. Participating teams include, from the North East Division, the James M. Hill Tommies, Miramichi Valley Pulamoo, Riverview Royals, and Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders. The South West division consists of the Fredericton High Black Kats, Leo Hayes Lions, Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders, and Saint John High Greyhounds.
The tournament will tip off with the North East’s number one ranked team, Riverview, taking on the South West’s number four seed, Saint John, on Friday at 1:00 pm. The Tommies, ranked third in the North East, will follow at 3:00 pm, while the Pulamoo will hit the court at 6:00 pm. The $5 admission fee covers a day pass for spectators.
A few weeks ago the JMH Girls played the number 1 ranked team from Riverview and lead for most of the game, but lost in the end by one basket. Many of the girls on the JMH team played on the Jr. High Provinical championship team last spring, including Katie Corlett, and Barrie Leggett.
Min Tourny Set for MVHS
On Saturday and Sunday mini teams from all over the province will be at MVHS for their annual mini tourny. If you think these kids are too young to be any good, think again. Young players know the game very well, and so do their parents who don't miss a trick when comes keeping the refs honest, and applauding the hard efforts of the payers. There will be a canteen open, and a draw every game for the best seat in the house - The Big Comfy Couch. The comfy couch is just that, and it sits on the sideline at center court, right in the middle of the action. Come on out to MVHS this weekend and cheer on some of the up and coming basketball stars in Miramichi.
