Boy from the Baie chosen for Canada Games Team

302747_10152318971820613_473818297_nDaniel Poirier is going to the Canada Games.  The 6 foot  3 inch young man from Baie Ste-Anne was selected for the New Brunswick team, and is one of only 3 players not from Fredericton who will be representing the province in Sherbrooke Quebec the first week of August.  Daniel is the son of Alda and Brent Poirier from Portage River.  Daniel is 18, while many of the players on the NB team are closer to 21.

Daniel has been playing volleyball since grade 7, and says it is a very popular sport in Baie Ste-Anne.  Daniel's mother said that Danial had the opportunity to play Jr. B hockey closer to home, but he has followed his passion and is playing volleyball for Limoilou College, just outside Quebec City.  Daniel could have played for College Ste-Anne in Nova Scotia, but chose the Quebec school because he looked forward to competing against one of the best volleyball squads in the country,  Laval, and because he was promised a top 6 spot.  He is quite a leaper, and is a power hitter from the left side.   His mom says Danielis very dedicated, trains hard, and is a leader on t

he court.  She's not surprised he was chosen for the team.

8036_10152031480060157_1304381145_nDaniel will be travelling with the Canada Games team for a series of matches in Cuba from July 20th - 28th.  Daniel says he looks forward to the international competition, and looks forward to playing in Europe someday.

Come See Daniel Play - June 29th in BSA

The Canada Games team will be making a visit to Baie Ste-Anne next weekend, coinciding with the communities sea food festival.  The team will be putting on a clinic for youths at the school on June 29th at 10am.  Then at 2pm, the team will play an inter-squad game.download download (1)
