In 2012 things looked bleak for the mining industry in the Bathurst area until Travali Mining purchased the former Caribou ore mine and mill at the Bathurst Mining Camp.
At the time Trevali said it expected to hire 150 people in 2013, then another 300 workers by 2016 when it opened another mine and mill to feed its ore mining operations, according to Steve Stakiw, the company's manager of corporate communications and investor relations.
The Vancouver based company said there is a lot interest in the area for mining jobs.
"Obviously, I think people would like to stay where their families are. So we are seeing a lot of interest from a very skilled labour force that is in the area, so we are certainly going to be looking there first and ideally we are looking to hire locally," said Stakiw.
On May 6th the company posted positive test results, and stated that "the independent Preliminary Economic Assessment for the Company's Caribou Mine and Mill Complex, being prepared by SRK Consulting (Canada) Inc., is nearing completion and expected within the next one-to-two weeks. The study will form the basis for Trevali's restart of the Caribou operations in 2015."
On May 7th Travali recently put out a call for job applications. The deadline to apply is June 6th. The positions they are looking for include:
